Training - Having Difficult Conversations in Co-ops: Humans (are not) resources

Training provided by a People Development Coordinator from Suma Wholefoods, one of the largest worker co-ops in the UK.

What you will gain:

This is a session about why we shouldn’t put off the tough stuff in co-ops or shy away from the things we might find awkward! It’s about how we can still do some ‘HR’ stuff without treating people as resources.
It’s about why we should have the conversations that we sometimes dread with the people we might find it harder to communicate with.
If we don’t do the difficult stuff we can fall into muddling along with compromises that satisfy no-one- not tackling tricky issues can lead to inertia, burn out or even co-op failure.

- We’ll look at real examples of difficult conversations in co-ops, discuss how to prepare for them, facilitate them and work out when they’re necessary.
- We’ll look at the importance of collectively agreed rules and policies in shaping co-operative workplaces and lessening the authority of people in positions of responsibility.

This session is aimed at:

  • Members/workers
